Washington Dc

A city known as a hotbed for journalists and a place where its tough /not/ to find a wiretap, Washington, DC is both a brilliant display of architectural prowess and the center of the US in terms of governmental power. However, visitors continue to hold polarized opinions of the Capitol and its surrounding districts. Some are fearful of being monitored, but some just revel in the grandeur of the environment, at least in the vicinity of the Mall. The majority of Washington, DC is like any other city you might encounter. While you can view the staple attractions day in and day out, you can still lose yourself in the grid of streets and subway lines. Washingtons population isnt extremely high either; youre more likely to run into a group tour than a senator or a political columnist for the /Post/. All of this makes for an exciting experience that will bring both awe and admiration from those who visit. Book your flight to Washington, DC today!

When to go:

If possible, arrange plans for a visit to Washington during spring or autumn. Nothing is worse than trying to make your way through a crowd on a hot, humid, sticky day in the height of summer, or braving the winds slapping snowflakes at your back in winter. Spring and autumn are both mild; the only differences between the two are the natural occurrences put forth by the earths biological clock. Spring sees fewer tourists, especially at the start of the season. If youd like to enjoy a frenzy of cherries, arrange accommodations for March.

Getting there and around:

Because DC is served by three separate airports, travel to the city may seem a bit confusing, but its easier than one might think. Two international airports, Baltimore-Washington and Washington Dulles are where most overseas flights arrive, and both are complete with the full line of transit services to get you to your hotel quickly. The third, Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, receives most of the domestic flights, as well as a few from across the Canadian border. Your chances of flying into Ronald Reagan from European or Asian nations are slim to none, but if you do happen to arrive at this particular terminal, youll be provided with direct access to the city via Metro train service.

Most tourists who visit Washington focus their sight-seeing expeditions around the Mall, and for this you will need nothing more than your own two feet. If youd like to delve further into the city itself, however, nothing beats a bicycle. Theyre cheap to rent, do not have to be returned to their vendors, and allow you to see Washington the best way next to walking. The citys Metro system runs a quick and efficient service and travels to most areas, but if you happen to need a ride back to your hotel in the middle of the night, nothing beats a taxi.

Attractions:

Sitting atop a hill in the center of the city, literally, is the Capitol Building. This attraction itself takes in millions of visitors every year, where tours are given of its Rotunda, Statuary Hall, and the Supreme Court chamber. Visitors are also taken to the Capitols Crypt, where history is in session in its informative exhibits. If you happen to obtain a Congressional pass from the visitors gallery you can watch the assembly work its way through a few bills and filibusters!

A wonderful place to spend a day is in the Library of Congress. Now, it is not just a collection of 26 million books collecting dust. Inside the largest library in the world, historic documents are shown, classic films are screened, and even small concerts are held using the instruments the library keeps on display.

Possibly the most influential monument in the city, the Lincoln Memorial is a grand statement of the values of the country. It is the site where Martin Luther King Jr preached his famous Dream speech, and across the Reflecting Pool youll see the Washington Monument standing tall. You may climb the Monument by way of the elevator, and if you choose to descend via the stairway, youll come across portraits and plaques from all of the states.
