TobagoThe Caribbean islands of Tobago and Trinidad are most-often referred to as twins, but apart from the proximity of the two to each other, similarities in size are non-existent, and could not be more different when observing their traits close-up. Trinidad is the cosmopolitan, frenzied, and commercial half, while Tobago is the easygoing, undeveloped, simplistic soul of the two. Therefore, for us at /Flight Comparison/, Tobago comes out on top. Its beautiful landscape, coupled with small villages and great-but-not-too-great hotels, allows you to get lost more so in the dreamlike atmosphere than in the diversity of items on the hotels room-service menus. Water sports and activities are numerous here, and as opposed to the crowded beaches of Trinidad where youre almost certain to be hit with sand by passersby, you can lie on a beach at the edge of Tobago Island from dawn to dusk, and youll enjoy some peace and quiet while youre at it. In fact, Tobagos peacefulness is the why it has been receiving a growing number of visitors each year. Preserve your spot on the sand; book your flight today!
When to go:
Though Tobago doesnt exactly have a high-season per-se, if you wish to enjoy the island in what may seem like completely solitude, visit anytime between early-summer and winter. This period is your best bet for discounted hotel and restaurant fares as well, so if youre a budget-conscious traveler looking for your own Caribbean paradise, dont think twice about booking. Temperatures are ideal as well, and while rains may come unexpectedly, or simply more than you might have wished, your chance of running into a monsoon-like storm is quite small. Nevertheless, check with an international weather authority before heading out on that plane.
Getting there and around:
Trinidad receives many more direct international flights than Tobago, but you can find your way to both islands from locations around the world all the same. All major city airports in the US, Canada, UK, and South America offer direct connections to both islands, but if you find yourself out of a non-stop flight to Tobago, you can fly over to Trinidad, and catch a short 15-minute air-bus to Crown Point International Airport on Tobago. The terminal in Tobago is stocked with more services than one would expect, but for great cuisine, you may want to forego the entrees at the airport for some more appetizing meals in town. Taxis await travelers outside the terminal, and car rental agencies are on hand for those 25 or older with valid drivers licenses from the UK, US, Canada, France, or Germany.
We highly recommend renting your own set of wheels while in Tobago. A vehicle is essential if you wish to see the whole island, and while getting lost may be easier than you think, or you simply forget that driving is on the left in Tobago, the option to come and go as you please is the perfect antidote to those looking to escape the grips of organized vacationing experiences.
Attractions:
There isnt quite a lot of architectural brilliance on Tobago, but what the island makes up for in its lack of grand structure, is its natural layout. Bring extra film for your 35mm or an especially large memory card for your digital snap shooter, because shutters get quite a workout here! Great bird watching adventures are ready for the taking as well, and you can always enjoy a day or two of coral reef diving. The fishing villages of Speyside and Charlotteville are definitely worthy of visits too.
