Sarasota

Not far from the busiest of all Floridian cities, Tampa, Sarasota is a concoction of easy-going, moderate paced activity. Everyone here lives on a slower cycle than those in Sarasotas bigger brothers. Youll the villages to be littered with cafes and small bookstores, which, evidently actually evoke the image of real villages. It is also a coastal city, situated both on the mainland and on nearby islands, which somewhat simulates the feel of Floridas east-coast metropolis, Miami, but leaves out the intense frenzy that Miami is plagued with much of the year. Many retirees find homes in Sarasota, attracted to its down-home atmosphere that resembles their abodes from the country. Of course, there is a distinctly visible fun side to Sarasota, which youll see the ironically labeled district known as Siesta Village. The people here in Sarasota are friendly, welcoming, and always happy to show visitors the way to have a good time in their city. Visit Sarasota, and you too will understand why it has quickly become a highly-sought-out destination in the southeast USA.

When to go:

Temperatures peak during July and August in Sarasota, but rainfall is quite consistent throughout the year, which leaves you with a much easier choice on the timeframe for your visit. If you enjoy a bit of baking in the sun and lazing on the beaches, summer is your season. However, if you wish to escape the heat for some warm days and cooler nights, visit anytime between October and April. Daily temperatures are wonderful during this period, and though you may come across a few showers, rarely are there weather conditions that will lead you to alter your vacation plans.

You can board the Scenic Loop Trolley, which offerswelljust that, a scenic experience! Youll pass by Island Park, Bayfront, a portion of downtown Sarasota, to the FSU Ringling Center and to a few waterside views around the keys. The Main Street Trolley is utilized more by regular city commuters, and as a result the fare is that of the Scenic Loop Trolley.

Attractions:

The most popular attraction in Sarasota is undoubtedly the FSU Ringling Center for the Cultural Arts. Ones first assumption of the center would be that of a circus center. Though a portion is devoted to circus memorabilia in the form of the Ringling Museum of the Circus, the centerpiece of the Ringling Center is a neo-Venetian palace that is home to more than 32 room, beautiful views and halls that are complete with some of the most fascinating European and American art of the last 500 years. The John and Mable Ringing Museum of Art is home to one of the premier 17-th century baroque painting collections in the world, and it continues to awe visitors to this day.

If youre in the mood for some nature walking theres no better place in Sarasota to go than the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. Here youll find just about every species of plant you can think of, and youll be surprised by the vast number of orchids. Marie Selby proudly declares itself to be the sole garden in the world which specializes on all aspects of epiphytes (air plants). It may take you a while to traverse the grounds here completely, but its all worth it!
