Though it is of no use naming all solitary park grounds within the city of Rochester, considering the abundance of green patches throughout the grid, there are certainly two which stand out. Both the Quarry Hill and Parkwood Hills Parks bring locals and the city's visitors the most complete nature-walk experience of any reserves within the general metropolitan area, and for good reason: they're one! Well, they're certainly labeled as separate entities, but one look at a map - or, if you wish to conduct a hands-on investigation, get a look at the two for yourself - you'll come to find the forest located inside the city's northeastern quarter to be a single cut of forest. Nonetheless, both parks are open to all, and well worth a day's exploration. Spend your time walking from district to district, from museums to churches, or even from the city's sole university to the grid's westernmost golf course. Conventional activities are in abundance in Rochester, but great sightseeing excursions await those interested in the prairies beyond the rectangular boxes of the city's innermost regions. When to go:
Many folks do think of Minnesota as a state home to middle-American values and broad swaths of cultivated land, but while some of the stereotypical imagery may prove true for its own regions, it is well enough apart from central USA (we're talking in a strict geographic sense) to know it is unique in its own rite. Located within southeast Minnesota, Rochester bears many of the traits of its more northerly brothers and sisters, but is often exempt from the intense climatic occurrences typically experienced by those close to the US/Canada border. Rainfall is frequently seen throughout the state, mostly in the months of spring and autumn. If you'd rather steer clear of periods in which battling the elements could quite possibly be part of a daily routine, summer is the safest choice of the four seasons.
Getting there and around:
RST, Rochester's international airport code, is well connected to cities throughout the state, as well as most major US locations. Flights to/from the nation's eastern coast are easy to come by, and such is the way by with all Europeans and others overseas will wish to journey to the city.
