MilwaukeeMilwaukee
Milwaukee, Wisconsin, may boast quite a few Starbucks 'pods' and hold many of the state's largest commercial, industrial, and technology corporations, but deep down, the city is still the place in northern US where it's OK to wear a cowboy hat in public, where access to horse ranches is easy to come by, and no man-made structure is as tall as the mountains standing in the distance. Touching Lake Michigan, Milwaukee is one of the most pleasant cities in Wisconsin to visit, and with plenty of comfortable hotels in which to stay and lots of beer to satisfy the rustiest of bikers and the general "hardy" populace, it's no wonder why it is becoming one of the most popular locations in north-central USA, for Americans and international folks alike. Milwaukee is home to a historical museum arguably second to none in the state, or quite possibly the region, and cultural sophistication is top notch here as well. The Milwaukee Art Museum, designed by the world famous brilliance of Calatrava, this center packs a collection that boasts tokens often said to rival those of MoMA in New York. What it comes down to is that you're guaranteed at least an enjoyable, well-rounded experience in a land that decades prior was solely an area reserved for farming and cattle raising. With Harley-Davidsons as the vehicle du jour on its streets and tons of inviting nuances, both by the waterline and its sectors furthest inland, Milwaukee proves to be a winning combination for lots of fun-seeking travelers. If all the above sounds good to you, wait no longer! Book your flight to Milwaukee today!
When to go:
Winters in North America's northern regions tend to turn people off from planning any visits, and such a broadly-reaching consensus includes Milwaukee, for most of the other three quarters of the year, you're set to see a good majority of pleasing weather. Spring, summer, and autumn all offer lots of sunny days, the last of which includes more frequent rainfall, but not enough to deter one from traveling. Your safest bet is to trip during summer, but little color will brighten up your outdoor excursions, apart from a stop in on a botanical garden or two. Who has time for flowers when the atmosphere is filled with the sounds of throaty exhausts, anyway?
Getting there and around:
It's simply good business to include at least a few international travel options to a flight center's roster, and Milwaukee's own General Mitchell International Airport makes well on this presumed standard. Though you may not find direct connections to/from Europe, Milwaukee has a plentiful supply of east-coast-United-States connections. GMIA is located roughly 10 miles from downtown Milwaukee. Providing bargain access to much of the metropolitan area, Milwaukee County Transit System is a great way to get around the city and its suburbs. Downtown Milwaukee even has its own trolley to whisk (albeit slowly) visitors on a roundabout tour of the city's most popular sites. The fare for this ride is US$1.00.
Attractions:
Interested in a free tour of one of the world's largest breweries? Take a trip over to 4251 W. State St. for good look at massive complex that is the Miller Brewing Company. Samples are provided at the end of the tour within what is the city's last remaining beer garden, or biergarten. Note: gatherings outside are arranged only in warm weather. Who said bikers aren't interested in orchids? The Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory is a series of aluminum-and-glass domes that maintain patches of everything from nuts to spices to, yes, orchids. Admission is US4.50 for adults and $3 for ages 6 through 17.
