Luxembourg

Luxembourg, both the name of a European nation and its capital city, is a small place surrounded on all sides by Belgium, France and Germany. The country itself is so quaint that it is entirely possible to traverse the land north to south in a single day while still having time to stop at a few sights along the way. Luxembourg's landscape can seem vast to many, and though it does have a fair amount of cities to call its own, the layout of its regions (if it has more than one) provides a very spacious, if too spacious, setting. Luxembourg City will feel to many like any other European capital. Its center is in a constant frenzy, and the architecture, though updated over the years, still holds medieval nuances here and there. The people of Luxembourg are proud to call their morsel of Europe home, and despite the fact that the choices for travel many not be tremendous and the capital's museum won't win awards over those of France or Germany, the country as a whole enjoys its status as a small star sitting amongst larger brethren. Visit Luxembourg for the buildings or come for the rivers. Whatever your reason may be, book your flight to Luxembourg today.

When to go:

Luxembourg becomes the land of wildflowers in spring, so if you'd like a little beauty added to each step on that mountain hike, you'd do best to visit during this time. It does rain quite a bit during this season, and for much of autumn as well, and only slightly less so during summer. European countries are known to experience fairly rough winters when snow falls in feet, not inches, but luckily for those traveling between December and February, Luxembourg seems to get passed over by the conditions felt in neighboring countries.

Getting there and around:

Findel International Airport is where all major international flights to Luxembourg gather. The terminal itself is quite large - expanded in order to accommodate the influx of travelers that has come in recent years. The national carrier known as Luxair now travels to a number of foreign cities such as Amsterdam and London, and overseas flights are on the rise. If you've brought along more than your carry-on bag on the trip, you might want to opt for a taxi instead of a bus seat, however, airport-town travel is really the only scenario for which overpayment seems somewhat reasonable. The premier transit system of Luxembourg is its bus system. Train service between cities is of no comparison to that of European states, and taxis, even for the smallest of distances, run on fares that empty your deepest pockets. When all is said and done, you'll grow to enjoy the communal environment aboard Luxembourg's buses.

Attractions:

Luxembourg City lies perched atop a plateau of sorts that offers beautiful views of two of the countries most scenic valleys: the Petrusse, and the Alzette. Centuries ago, a fortress was built to commence the creation of Luxembourg, and though it is long gone, the atmosphere surrounding the city still holds the mystique that still attracts so many. You'll need a few days for an Ardennes expedition, but once you cross its many rivers, valleys, and visit the few castles and fortresses that dot the region, your efforts will be rewarded ten-fold. The main towns of Clervaux, Vianden, and Wiltz are good points for R&R, and if you're ready to head back to your hotel, finding a bus that will do so is a simple task.
