Little Rock

The first southern US capital to enforce the Supreme Court ruling to abolish public school segregation, Little Rock is the center for many civil rights achievements in America. Almost half a century after Little Rock was thrust into the national (and international) spotlight as a testament to heroics, the city still brings travelers from all over the country to view the landmarks where history was made, where, in a time when standing out put you in great danger, freedom and equality were ever-present ideals upheld in the agendas of few leaders. Though Little Rock isn't the tourist trap Washington has become, and you'll rarely see yourself in the center of a controversial public announcement or press conference, there's an unmistakable aire of dignity that the city emits. And, visitors will be glad to know, such gravitas hardly interferes with the friendliness of the capital. You can just as well find the Clinton Library and the Central High Museum intriguing as you do its cultural and culinary hub. Of course, you may find Little Rock residents' fascination with southern comfort foods a bit too much to take, and if so, you'll enjoy the increasing number of "foreign" dishes. Overall, Little Rock is an outdoor attraction, with plenty of streets accented by trees, closely-positioned suburbs, a good number of city parks, and community festivals and parades to top it all off. Come for the history; come for the people. Book your flight to Little Rock today.

When to go:

Commanding central Arkansas, Little Rock is the largest governmental and transit hub of the state. Street activity rarely dies down entirely, and its rails, roads, and airspace are in constant use. If you're planning on visiting Little Rock in a low season, you can find a relatively quite time in the early and late months of the year, though, as it goes for most of the region, the warmer, the better. Summer in Little Rock may be hot and the city may be bristling with energy, but year after year, these characteristics have put the state capital in the top percentile for average visitorship each June, July, and August. The lengthy waits and often traffic-ridden grid are worth the trouble when the multitudes of events and special occasions are accounted for.

Getting there and around:

Little Rock National Airport, host to dozens of daily flights, is the second-most frequently utilized venue for travel to/from out-of-town destinations in the capital - the top spot goes to its highways. When you arrive, you'll be greeted with a user-friendly terminal UI (user interface), leaving little room for aggravation and giving you more time to enjoy your stay. Hire a taxi or purchase a bus pass to get you into the city. Car rentals agencies are on site for those looking to travel via more private means. The Arkansan capital is quite simple in the way it is structured, but like most people new to a location, many visitors to Little Rock rely on specific landmarks to lead the way. If you're walking from place to place, you'll run into little or no trouble, though if you have a vehicle in your possession, a strategy may need to be formulated before you do extensive driving.

Attractions:

Little Rock's Quapaw Quarter is not a single great entity, but rather a series of small delights that, together, offer a memorable tour. Homes here are styled in Colonial Revival and Victorian fashions, with a few other English touches as well. The Villa Marre Home is known by some familiar with a television program known as Designing Women
