KievThe capital city of Ukraine, Kiev is a testament to the ancient Slavic empire, withstanding invasion after invasion and the devastation wrought by WWII. Today it is as rejuvenated as ever, and though modernism has necessarily been prevalently placed around the city, Kiev does retain a few historic icons within its Old Town. In fact, you're more likely to be awed by this quaint quarter than anything else Kiev has to offer. Pride certain takes place over material items in this city, but one can't help passing over the documented history for the more resoundingly beautiful architecture of notable landmarks such as St Sophia Cathedral. Whether you're in search of frescoes or a fresh, world-class meal, the city surely delivers, and though it may seem a bit unstable (as are many cities in nations seeking membership in the EU), most locals are friendly to visitors, but you may feel a bit pressured to take on a political stance, depending on who you're with and where your conversation takes place. If your desire is to experience all of Ukraine in a single compact metropolis, there's no better area in the country than Kiev. Take it in slowly, and you'll leave astonished. Futhermore, take it in safely. Well? What's the wait? Book your flight to Kiev today!

Getting there and around:
Travel to Kiev can be a bit tricky and it all depends on your flight's origin. A good number of international flights can be made to Boryspil International Airport, a distant 40km from town. Kiev's neighbor, Lviv, is home to a terminal that is just 8km from Kiev, which boasts connections from European cities such as Warsaw, Prague, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, and London. Thirdly, Odessa Airport is the second-closest with a roster that includes Vienna and Moscow. Simply put, try to find your way to Lviv's airport. Buses will save you money, but steal your sanity as the rides commence. If you're traveling long-distance, we highly recommend utilizing these candy-bar-like contraptions, as you can have a splendid time getting to know Ukrainians first-hand. City travel is just hectic; the smaller the vehicle, the better. Walking is an entirely plausible scenario if one is traversing the Old Town of Kiev, but if you're scooting around the city's residential districts, you're best...well...taking a scooter, or even a bicycle if you're a staunch environmentalist.
Attractions:
The best way to get to the Cathedral, apart from making your way through back alleys, is through the Golden Gate, or Zolotovoritska. St Sophia Cathedral is actually a complex of churches, residence buildings for clergy, and a museum. Exhibits range from religious murals to paintings and portraits, as well as miniature models of ancient towns. Tickets must be purchased for one to gain entry to the museum; all other sites (excluding residences) are open to public viewing.
