Isle Of Man

A part of the UK, yet in many ways (including geographically) unattached, Isle of Man has been a destination for the upper and middle classes for decades, where television and film directors have found belonging and where its core beauty never ceases to amaze first-timers, even long-time residents as well! It's a small island off the coast of Britain that will have you wondering how such variations in landscape could exist on a landmass that only measures a few square kilometers. It's a place where racers enjoy the pavement and lovers of aquatics seem to exist solely for the sands and the sea. Each city/town on the island has its own spin when it comes to attractions. Some pride themselves in their restaurant collections while others hold galleries and historic sites to great esteem. Whether one looks at Isle of Man in a critical light or grows fond of its haven-for-everything persona, you'll find a sense of home in the quaint villages and hotels that speak of colonial times. International influences abound here as well; seeing the Scottish trademark of plaid and an Irish pub or two is not out of the ordinary, and festivities and events occur here for all walks of life. Come to Isle of Man if you're on the prowl for something new, fresh, unique, and exciting. Book your flight to the island today!

When to go:

Somewhat temperate for its location, Isle of Man is a virtually a whirlpool of climatic shifts. Rainfall one hour and sunshine the next is not out of the ordinary here, and this can both make for a wonderful characteristic of a vacation destination - placing it in its own league, and put a large damper on your picnic outing at the local park that was nothing short of perfect. Instead of allowing weather patterns to discourage a visit to Isle of Man, you can use the uncertainty to your benefit and spend those dreary, gray days inside the colorful cocoons that are the island's art galleries. Cozy up with a novel at a caf or board the steam train for the summit of Snaefell. Surprises are to be expected here, so take them as they come!

Getting there and around:

Ronaldsway Airport is Isle of Man's depot for international air travel and is located in the south of the island. Overseas travel is easier than a novice of Isle travel might expect, and though North American travel is scarce, European connections are more than one can muster breath to repeat. Travel to the island surpasses that of many cities in mainland Britain, and therefore a large terminal is necessary to accommodate those hundreds of thousands passing through. Extensive lines are nonexistent for fliers arriving or departing between the months of October and May (chronologically). There are three ways of getting about Isle of Man: personal vehicle, bus, or railway. There are a good number of rental agencies at the airport, though you might do better to find a smaller establishment with better deals in town. Buses are the next best option to having your own transport vehicle, though to gain the best scenic views you'll have to purchase a train ticket. Unless, of course, you're one for a good hike, in which case a drive to the base of Mount Snaefell will be adequate.

Attractions:

Museums are a given for nearly every major destination around the world, but Isle of Man does well to diminish the spotlight on its selection. This leads folks in search of artistry to do just that - search. Spend a day or two trekking the Isle's sidewalks for niche galleries placed alongside markets and cafes. It's almost as fun to discover another site as it is to view the collection inside! If you're one for nature walks (we sure are!) you'll love the Gardens of Ballalheannagh, located near the town of Laxey. The grounds are vast, so you'll have to set aside a good amount of your day just to see everything, but it's all worth the effort. Some areas of the garden are reserved for species that originated on the Isle, and are a great draw for amateur and professional botanists.
