Ibiza Ibiza is a beautiful, quaint, little island off the coast of Spain, where for quite a long time, the people were for-the-most-part unknown and unvisited by travelers. Most tourists flocked to the larger of the Spanish islands, Majorca. However, soon as word got out about the fantastic art colonies on the island of Ibiza, travelers (mostly hippie flower-child wanderers from Europe) flocked to the island for discovery, respite, and relaxation from the worries of their origins. Today Ibiza is a very much sought after by tourists from England, France, Germany and Scandinavia looking for a package tour of this beautiful island. At some of the beaches, youll find crowds of people, with little else being done but sunbathing. You can chart your own adventure, however, and make a world of difference to your experience in Ibiza.
When to go:
The ideal time to visit Ibiza is in the winter. The daily temperatures are perfect, and the skies are clear and the air is crisp and fresh. Most tourists travel to Ibiza during the summer, but be warned - temperatures can get uncomfortably hot. Travel during winter, and you can assuredly rest safe and sound.
Getting there and around:
Ibizas airport, Es Cordola Airport, resides just outside Ciudad de Ibiza. Youll find that the bus service into the city is plenty accommodating for a short 5.5km (3.5mi) ride. Taxis are available as well, as are a number of car rental agencies. Bus service is available every hour upon-the-hour back to the airport.
Ciudad de Ibiza is quite a small, compact city, where transportation is entirely unnecessary. If youre looking to visit the beaches or resorts on the outskirts of the city and/or island, bus service is widely available during most of the day. And, dont pass up the opportunity to rent a bicycle or moped to travel around the city and neighboring towns. Of course, if you rent a vehicle at the airport, you will have to use none of the above.
Attractions:
Though Ciudad de Ibiza can provide much excitement in the way of exploring a unique culture and mingling with fellow travelers, the island is best suited for beach goers and hikers.
The hills in Ibiza are wonderful, and youll find trails rarely trodden upon. Traveling the hills long enough will eventually lead you to the dunes, which will then lead you to the beaches (although sometimes youll find yourself at the top of jagged cliffs with picturesque views of the water and beaches below.
Youll find that Ibiza has numerous beaches, some sacred and untouched, and some heavily populated by sunbathers. These beaches include: Las Salinas, Playa Cavallet, Aigues Blanques (Cavallet & Blanques are nude beaches), Cala Bassa, Port Des Torrent, Cala Tarida, and Cala Conta. The most famous and frequented beach, however, is Es Pujols. Youll come upon beautiful white sand with the backdrop of dunes and pine-filled hills.
