Give Nottingham a try for a taste of home-grown ale and some of the best nightclubs in the country; take a ride to Leicester if you're on the prowl for a science center that ranks among the best in Europe. Wherever you choose to go in the East Midlands you can be sure that you'll encounter some interesting places and even more interesting folk. Let us not be mistaken - the countryside far outnumbers that of cityscapes here in terms of pure acreage. The fields are where it all started, and many residing in region's cities have indeed grown up among the tall grasses and have carried their traditions along to the bustling streets, making even the busiest urban jungle homely. Cafes are staples in all of the locales in the East Midlands and you'll need the occasional boost to cover everything you wish to experience in center the country. Book a flight to the East Midlands and you might come away with a morsel of English in you as well!

Generally more pleasant during the warmer months (spring, summer, autumn), the East Midlands are home to seasons that have their own unique twists on the scenery. The landscape blooms in spring and colors stay vivid throughout summer with regular rainfall. In autumn, the countryside shifts to picturesque pastels and the cities calm after the end to the high-season. Events around the East Midlands typically follow the national calendar, with exceptions being fairs and outdoor markets that emerge during weekends on dry days.
Getting there and around:
The East Midlands International Airport is strategically located in the center of the region and therefore offers the easiest access possible for travelers coming and going from the terminal. Public buses as well as private shuttles provide transportation to all cities in the area, though taxis are the most convenient mode, you'll want to pass on that opportunity when the fare comes into play. Renting a vehicle is a good idea for those with agendas that include cross-country excursions. Few hotels in the East Midlands offer personal transportation services, but if the option arises, snatch it up! The ideal way of travel throughout the East Midlands is by taxi, but that doesn't always equate to the best of the bunch. Buses are usually the cheapest of all methods, though long distance travel is best done by train. Simply put: If your desire is to tour all of the cities in the area, grab a rail schedule. Otherwise, save some change while you're traveling and familiarize yourself with bus routes.
Attractions:
One of the East Midlands' chief attractions is Leicester's National Space Center. Namely a research center, it also caters to visitors seeking a closer look at the stars, and recently it has revamped its lineup of displays and exhibits with Stellarium. The city of Leicester is also a beautiful blend of the modern and the ancient with castles adjacent (roughly, that is) to commercial complexes. Everything in the city is spread out, making for an enjoyable atmosphere without getting bombarded by signs and advertisements. Loughborough is one of many cities in the East Midlands that has something for everyone, whether it be its countless pubs or its cheery markets held every Saturday. Nottingham is very similar, though a bit easier on the eyes and culinary aromas abound like no other place in central England.
