Denver Denver, the Mile High City is a spectacle of sights and more sights. From the city streets, chock-full-of skyscrapers intertwined with the occasional civic or arts center, to the beautiful landscape, and the hills surrounding it, Denver is a perfect destination all year-round. Rich in culture, diversity, art and history, the city always has something exciting happening. Travel the light-rail system from uptown to downtown, and youll see all the differences and wonders Denver has to offer.
When to go:
Denver, as we stated earlier, is wonderful all-year-round, and it is so true. In the spring the wildflowers come to bloom, and the city and its surroundings come alive with color and beauty. In the summer, you can catch some great concerts, both outdoor and indoor, and sight-see with the warm air and fresh mountain breezes to perfect your experience. In autumn, the foliage becomes rich in pastel-like colors, and the mountain hikes and bike rides could not be better. In winter, youll be pleased with the steady snowfall, making your ski trip conditions ideal. Whichever time of year you choose, expect never to run out of things to do!
Getting there and around:
Denver couldnt be easier to get to, with the Denver International Airport being a major hub in the United States travel system. A great number of fliers come and go from this spot, and this is evident in the more than 20 airlines servicing the airport. It is some distance from downtown (where the majority of hotels are located), so it may take you some time to reach your destination within the city. But you get to choose from a wide range of transport options to get you to where you want to go. You can rent a car, or take a van, shuttle bus, taxi, or even limo nearly whenever you wish; theyre almost always at-the-ready. Also good news is that most transport options are available well after the sun has set, so you wont be short of choices.
Getting around the city is easy, and you also have a multitude of choices here. You can take a taxi to far reaching destination, or take one of the many buses all over the city. An even simpler way of getting around is via the RTD light rail system, which has lines that traverse the axis of the city. And if the day is warm and the sun is shining, why not rent a bicycle or take your own around the city for a spin!
Attractions:
We think your first stop in the city should be the Denver Art Museum. The interesting architecture resembles a jail, only much taller. This enormous structure holds a massive collection of pieces ranging from art canvases, to ancient artifacts. What is said to be one of the largest collections of Native American art is housed here. The collections are so grand that the displays are meticulously arranged in geographical order to depict how pieces from all over the land have related to one another. Artists work is abundant here as well, done by both well known and lesser known artists from the US, Africa, Asia, and Europe. The Denver Art Museum is located downtown, therefore youll have easy access to its location from other cultural centers nearby.
Denver has one of the best science and nature museums in the country, and possibly even the world, and it is appropriately known as the Denver Museum of Nature & Science. It was founded about a century ago, and stands as a wonderful home to a great array of fossils and scientific inventions. Highlights of the museum are the remains of the Nebraska mammoth and long-jawed mastodon. Also on display is an exhibit depicting a bison species that has been extinct for more than 10,000 years, and this discovery led to an even greater discovery, one which found that this evidence showed human beings to be living on the continent thousands of years earlier than previously thought.
Of course when you visit Denver, you must take a detour to visit the Red Rocks Park and Amphitheater. Its a huge outdoor area, situated between grand slabs of 70-million-year-old rock, which naturally create superb acoustics for concerts and such. You may even want to catch a performance during your stay in Denver.
