Daytona Beach

Floridas most popular beach-towns, Miami Beach and Daytona Beach, are quite different from one another. Daytona Beach stands as a nationally recognized home to events such as Bike Week and numerous car shows and races. Miami Beach is the younger generations hub for raucous activity for a small portion of the year and otherwise a giant venue for numerous sports teams. Those who enjoy the growl of a Mustang more than the squeal of a rowdy teenager will do well to opt for Daytona Beach. The city is not the most beautiful haunt in the nation, but its roster of annual happenings leads it to be one of the most crowded places in the southeast United States. If youre tired of the rumble of motorcycles you can make your way to the sands and walk the waterline til the sun goes down and grab some fried specialties at a boardwalk joint where hotdogs and cannolis are king. So fly or ride on over to Daytona Beach no matter what time of day or month of the year.

When to go:

Daytona Beach is a wonderful destination year-round; however it is best to make it to the city either in spring or in autumn. Summers can be a bit too hot, what with Daytona Beach sitting in the south of Florida; and while not frigid, winters are definitely not the time of year to be taking a swim. Biketoberfest, one of the citys chief attractions, is you guessed it! in October, when the days are long and the ferocious summer sun has long passed. Appropriately held in November around the time of Thanksgiving, the seems to boast record numbers each consecutive year. Theres never a bad time to visit the Beach, but come during the warmer months for a chance to experience the city at liveliest and most entertaining.

Getting there and around:

Daytona Beach International Airport sees a good amount of daily traffic, but it is far less utilized than Orlandos international airport. Daytonas terminal is home to a good number of services and year by year its schedule continues to grow, bringing an increased number of flights from Europe and other overseas locations. Transport to/from the airport is simple enough with services ranging from buses to car rentals. Though a private taxi may seem a more pleasant option in relation to a public bus, fares for the latter are much easier on the wallet.

The easiest way of getting around Daytona Beach is by VOTRAN bus. The city itself does not have its own system, and therefore it relies on the Volusia County network. Routes are covered at least every hour, so youll never be left high and dry, though service does become less frequent during the evening hours, which is when most people count on taxi service anyhow.

Attractions:

As we mentioned earlier, Daytona Beach is known for its motorcycle and car shows, but theres also a good fan base for car racing here as well. NASCAR runs events throughout the regular season that bring thousands upon thousands of spectators to the city. Attending a race at the oval may lead you to certain deafening, so be sure to plug your ears miles from the track! Activities by the water are numerous in spring, summer, and fall as well, with everything from beach volleyball to windsurfing to scuba diving.
