Dallas Fort Worth

Dallas Fort Worth still has its heart in the old Stockyards which were the booming marketplace of the west for cattle, and much of the soul still lives in the past, but Dallas twin city is definitely not lacking on modernity. It lacks the skyscrapers, but it has the internet cafes. It is the part of the Dallas area that hasnt been left behind, yet still keeps a foot in the door of history. With the perfect blend of old and new, there is something for everyone. Whether youre looking for nightclubs or antiquities, Dallas Fort Worth will leave you satisfied, yet itching for more.

When to go:

Spring and autumn are both ideal times to visit Dallas Fort Worth. The weather is perfect, there are more festivals going on during these seasons, and there are more people out and about, which makes the whole atmosphere livelier and more exciting. We like autumn better simply because if youre spending time relaxing in a park, the foliage looks much more beautiful with the changing colors.

Getting there and around:

When you travel to the city, chances are that youre going to be arriving at DFW International Airport, unless youre traveling from within the state. If thats the case, then you would be arriving at Fort Worth Meacham Airport. DFW airport is quite a distance away from the city centre, so youre going to have to take some sort of transportation service, and your best bet is either to take a taxi or the shuttle service available. Buses and car rentals are available too, but you wont really need your own car to travel around Fort Worth, and buses seem to take too long.

If you cant get around on foot to your destinations within the city, we suggest you take the bus. Taxis, after a while, just seem to be a drain on your funds, and buses are available much of the time and save you a bundle of change.

Attractions:

Your first destination to visit should be Sundance Square. The Square is laid out over 14 blocks, and is one of the most exciting and happening places in the entire state. Theres a great nightclub here, and great shops, restaurants, artistic architecture, and wonderful public art- a highlight being the amazing mural of the Chisholm Trail.

The Stockyards National Historic District is another notable area to visit. Its popular among both visitors and residents. What used to be the epicenter of the ranching industry now stands as a great entertainment and shopping place. Some call it the Wall Street of the West because of the still existent Fort Worth Livestock Exchange. The Exchange houses a museum of photographs and items from the early days of the Stockyards.

Fort Worth has many more museums as well, with collections ranging from ancient history to modern art. A few establishments we deem to be noteworthy are: the Kimbell Art Museum (Americas Best Small Museum- works by Cezanne, Matisse, Picasso, Rembrandt, and more), Amon Carter Museum (Georgia OKeefe, etc), Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth (works from 1945 to present-day), and Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.
