BuffaloUtilized more as an access point for those visiting Niagara Falls, Buffalo has the look of an ordinary North American city with the exception of its lack in skyscrapers and a good subway system. A closer, however, will reveal a series of historic landmarks that regularly go unnoticed by the average travelers passing through its streets. Offering some of the trendiest outposts for shopping and clubbing in the northeast US, Buffalo draws a sizable crowd of those of more recent generations. The city thrives on weekends, and a portion of the downtown area is alive with arts performances that rival those in many venues in New Yorks most popular destination, NYC. Buffalo is also quite in tune with nature, with its widely popular Zoological Gardens. A notable art gallery featuring both permanent and temporary exhibits is also on Buffalos to-see list. The citys Historical Society continues to revamp and salvage structures that were the best in the region just a few decades ago into the fantastic creations they once stood as. Though Buffalo was has quite a hill to climb if it wishes to compete for travelers among the most popular destinations in the northeast, you can make your way here now and see the sights in the secret, yet wonderful states in which they exist today.
When to go:
Buffalo is well-known to have one of the highest snowfall rates in the United States. For that fact alone, its a treacherous area to traverse during the colder months and is advisable to avoid unless visiting for winters events. Summer days are warm followed by chilly nights, and the longest seasons in temperate terms are spring and autumn. The conditions associated with these seasons drift far into the months which precede or succeed them. Given that you will rarely come upon a day suitable for sunbathing in this city, the general approach to travel here is to come on a clear forecast. Rain is mostly reserved for the winter and spring seasons, so be sure to visit Buffalo in either summer or autumn for the least umbrella use of the year!
Getting there and around:
Buffalo Niagara International Airport is where most flights to the city and its outer-lying region arrive. The terminal is quite spacious as it is necessary for those traveling to/from both New York and Canada. A bus or taxi will take you into the city, though buses are less frequently available on weekends so a taxi will have to suffice, especially for evening arrivals on Sundays.
Renting a vehicle in Buffalo has its advantages when coupling a city visit with that of the nearby site of Niagara Falls. Bus fares are still the cheaper way to go for visits outside the city, but youll be stuck to a timetable which wont bode well for off-the-track detours you may wish to take. Its entirely possible to walk the entire downtown region of the city, but a trip to a few sites around Buffalo will need at least the aid of a bicycle.
