When to go

Denmark is situated on a peninsula in the north of Europe touching the Baltic and North Seas, and the city of Billund is in its southwestern region. The country itself receives a rather ordinary mixture of climate changes if a bit on the warmer side in comparison to Switzerland, Norway, and elsewhere in the northern portion of the continent. Summers are wonderful here, when days apart from those sodden with rain are warm with the occasional, refreshing breeze to open the sails. Spring and autumn are quite similar in temperature, though nights end up nippy for the most part (its good to keep in mind that autumn is Billunds wettest season). Winters, though rarely filled with snow, are not such easy walks in the park as some predict them to be. It is safe to say that Billund isnt savagely hit with a deep freeze between December and February, but if you choose this time to visit the city, it wouldnt be unorthodox to pack extra-thick attire. Note: Flannel has gained in notoriety in Denmark in recent years!

Getting there and around

Billund Airport is relatively close to just about any hotel within the city limits, standing at a little over 2km (1.3mi) from the city center. The airport offers a good number of services and is home to a number of car rental agencies as well. You can travel directly to Legoland if you wish, though we recommend gaining some bearing of the city as a whole before entering the wide world of imagination-creations.

Most visitors to Billund travel by bus, as it is a fairly compact city, and taxis are really of no use except for late-night trips back to your room. Trains arrive in Billunds terminal from all over the country, and are very useful for out-of-town detours and/or excursions.

Attractions

The single attraction that towers above all in Billund is the famed empire known as Legoland. You can view life-size recreations of well-known landmarks from around the country and around the world, and the young ones in your family will have trouble walking away from the hypnotizing lure of the colored plastic. If possible, exit the grounds for meals, snacks, and other necessities. Youll break the bank in half a day if you neglect to take purchasing precautions!
