Bali

The face of Bali is undoubtedly one of the most incredible and intriguing you will most-likely ever come across. Traverse the picturesque mountains, and walk the streets of Denpasar (Bali's capital), and you'll certainly feel as if in another world entirely.

When to go:

From April to October, Bali's climate is mostly cooler and drier than other months. When traveling, consider how you want to experience your stay. Around Christmas-time, most everything is booked. That goes for the heavy tourist season, which is normally from July to the start of September. If you wish to have an easy, calm, quiet time with the choice to have a somewhat malleable schedule, make your visit to Bali outside these seasons mentioned. Festivals, celebrations, and happenings take place on a continual basis throughout the Balinese year, so don't worry about missing out on any fun and excitement if you choose to visit Bali in the "off season".

Getting there:

Travel to Bali can be tricky if you don't reside nearby, or reside in/near a European capital. Those living in or around Indonesia will have an easier time traveling to and fro, and there exists a departure tax for all international and domestic flights. Bali's international airport, Ngurah Rai, is south of Kuta, a seaside city, and at arrival, just choose between a cab with either a set price, or one which is metered, depending on what your destination inside Bali might be. (Note: In October of 2002, Bali was struck by bomb attacks, which were the works of terrorists linked and/or associated with Al-Qaeda. Since those tragedies, Bali has been recuperating with a quick rebounding economy and social system. We advice taking precaution and contacting your country's foreign affairs department as well as Bali's for more information)

Getting around:

In Bali, you have a number of ways to get around the towns, cities, and other attractions. You may take buses and bemos with fixed routes, or rent a car, motorcycle, or bicycle.

Where to go:

Gunung Batur is one of the most fascinating sights in all of Bali. The volcanic cone and lake that surrounds a large expanse provide a view that will simply awe you and anyone else able to witness that spectacle. Watch the sunrise from high atop Batur and you'll never want to leave.

If you wish to visit the beaches, take a ride to Kuta Bay. It may not be the most beautiful seaside landscape, but with the villages and shops close by, it's a nice place to be. There are many hotels, restaurants, bars, and food stalls behind the beaches as well.

Bali is a place with widely evident cultural heritage, and there is no better place to experience it all, than in Ubud. The cultural center of Bali, Ubud holds numerous schools and galleries, displaying artwork with lush garden settings. Some western artists found sanctuary in Bali, and their work is displayed in a number of galleries including Neka Gallery and Agung Rai Gallery. Also, Balinese dancing and music is everywhere in this city.

History is an intricate part of Balinese culture. Ancient monuments and relics of Indonesian civilization can be seen in the Pejeng region. Some say these structures and carvings are hiding away, but others state they are /preserved/ by the sanctuary the land has created for them. There are shrines cut out of rock, somewhat imitating statues. There are also rock carvings at Yeh Pulu, the Pura Samuan Tiga Temple, and Goa Gajah.

A beautiful region in Bali to visit is West Bali National Park. It covers a vast number of acres, lush with wild habitats of coral reef and vegetation. This Park contains an incredible array of animals and other life. 200 species of birds inhabit the Park region, as well as numerous other wild animals, and the vegetation is home to over 200 species of plants as well. West Bali National Park is quite a spectacular area to travel through, where guided jungle treks are organized, and scuba diving is possible off Deer Island.
