Aberdeen, UK
One of the most intrinsically beautiful cities in Europe, Aberdeen is a world of cultural, visual and modern attractions. From its easygoing coastal life to the theatrical venues of its city center, Aberdeen may not be the most sought-out destination in Scotland, but it sure stands as one feature-packed locale. Many refer to Aberdeen as the Flower of Scotland, and rightly so. The citys Winter Garden is among the most magical in the UK, where youll never grow tired of the millions of roses, daffodils and more which line the pathways at the foot of Rose Mountain. If youre stuck on a bum day, you can head on over to one of Aberdeens many museums and/or galleries where youll find artistry and artifacts of both local and international origin. No matter what youre in the mood for, Aberdeen is ready to deliver, and it does so many times over! Book your flight to Aberdeen, Scotland today!
When to go
There is no set period to mark as the ideal time to visit Aberdeen, or for that matter, much of the UK. Festivities occur throughout the year, and though certain days could be warmer or colder than desired, your comfort level is quickly enhanced by the picturesque views of the citys harbor, cathedrals, and peaks. If youd like to avoid snowfall, however, book no earlier than March and no later than November. Rain seems to come and go as it pleases, so theres no use in trying to avoid the downpours. If you find yourself huddling underneath the umbrella, the respite of a corner caf is close at hand. For the most part, prices in Aberdeen are similar to those in fellow Scottish destinations.
Getting there and around
Connecting the city to the world (and vice versa) is
Aberdeen Dyce Airport, conveniently located just 7 miles (11km) from Aberdeens center. The airport is full of all the essential services, including: bureau de change, duty-free shops, restaurants and bars (the last two of which are not so much essential as inviting). Two airport hotels offer services to night-time arrivals.
The easiest way to travel the streets of Aberdeen is by foot. You get to see the city the way its meant to be viewed, and interacting with city dwellers is essential for the best experience possible. However, a taxicab is always inviting, especially for those longer treks across town, but if youre not short on time, save yourself a few euros and find the closest bus stop.
Attractions
Undoubtedly the most frequented stop in all of Aberdeen is the Winter Garden, inside
Duthie Park. Millions of flowers color the area beautifully, and because much of it is housed indoors, you can enjoy the collage year-round, whether youre wearing mitts or short sleeves.
After youve enjoyed a day with the daffodils you can head on over to the campus of Marischal College, where, among the establishments, you will find the
Marischal Museum. Granite is its theme, and though it may seem a bit dreary on the outside, the interior is alive with beautiful displays covering all sorts of genres, all with historic relevance to the country.
The
Aberdeen Maritime Museum is a great place for those interested in doing a bit more than looking around. The museum houses numerous hands-on exhibits which adults and children alike can interact with, but some may find its state-of-the-art character to be a bit disconnected from the historic perspective of this industry - an aspect especially highlighted in the original Maritime Museums creation.
